North Devon – it’s a tasty place to holiday

We’re encouraging people who stay in our luxury self-catering accommodation to try vegetables grown in the area, Devon eggs and meat from beef cattle, sheep and pigs reared in the county.

North Devon is often overlooked as a foodie destination but it’s a great place full of hidden culinary gems and somewhere off the beaten track to explore. There are some wonderful farmers’ markets near us and also lots of producers who sell from their farm gates or have wonderful farm shops.

Not far from us is Marshford Organic Foods in Northam. Like us it’s a family-run business. They grow vegetables, salads and herbs grown on their own nursery and also stock local eggs, dairy and meat products from local farms as well as fish caught off the North Devon coast. They also do store cupboard items and environmentally-friendly products for house and body care.

Guests staying with us can also pop along to Appledore Fish Summer School during August. It provides opportunities for local people and holidaymakers to gain knowledge of healthy sustainable local fish and how it can be prepared and cooked with seasonal produce.

There’s also Lang’s Farm Shop and tearoom at Bideford on a 300-acre family farm. They produce, free range, award-winning meat, traditionally reared on the farm. They rear free range Gloucester Old Spot cross pigs and Red Ruby Devon cattle and the family has been farming in the same village for generations.

Lang’s Farm Shop sells quality home produced meats, a range of cooked products including pies, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, ready meals and much more.

But if the glorious food wasn’t enough, when guests stay with us they can also enjoy the fabulous views and gaze out to Lundy Island, which is famous for its puffins.

We are located on the breath-taking North Devon coast, which is in the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) covering 171 km2 of coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border to Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor. It includes the Hartland Heritage Coast, the North Devon Heritage Coast and Braunton Burrows.

Plus it’s great strolling, ambling or full on rambling country with the moorland of Exmoor nearby and the South West Coast Path all on the village’s doorstep.

We offer luxury accommodation for those wishing to escape the hurly burly of everyday life and to unwind in a truly tranquil location with stunning scenery all year round. You can go for lovely walks, you can learn to surf, paddle or swim in the sea, sit on the beach and watch the sun go down and just enjoy the wonderful scenery.
